One of the principles underlying the activities of the health department is promoting more equitable access to information, skills and the technology needed for development in general and for health in particular. ACI promotes the wider circulation of information on health through:

  • Assistance in creating and managing documentation and resource centers
  • Design, production, dubbing and distribution of films in French, English and national languages
  • Design, production and distribution of documents and IEC (Information, Education and Communication) materials
  • Broad distribution and sale of subsidized learning materials
  • Design of resource documents (e.g. Directories of organizations working in the response to HIV, in Adolescent Reproductive Health, etc.)
  • Strengthening documentation systems and information exchange
  • Transforming the results of research into user-friendly documents
  • Development and management of e-forums for electronic information sharing and discussion

ACI Information and Resource Center

Created in 1993, ACI’s Information and Resource Center houses a rich and varied database of films and documents on HIV and Development and Reproductive Health issues. The Center also provides information and documentation on health and development to individuals and resource institutions. The Center is a founding member of the Senegalese and Pan African Network of HIV and AIDS Documentation Centers.

"It has become easier for us to answer questions people ask us during our awareness raising sessions thanks to the the quality of the trainers and the training we received during our ACI Poles of Excellence sessions."

"With ACI we learned that education needs to be based on dialogue, be relevant, increase the competence of the target group and give them responsability; it needs to give them the power to protect themselves and protect others; we understand that it is not simply a question of providing information, distibuting condoms and giving talks; you need to place the target popultion at the center of your activities, understand the obstacles to behavior change they face, and help remove those obstacles."
